Kashmir’s famed tourist destinations have been blanketed in fresh snow, with Sonamarg recording the highest depth at 3.5 feet, followed by Gulmarg and Doodhpatri with 3 feet each.
Yousmarg witnessed over 2 feet of snowfall, while Daksum received 1 foot. Verinag and Pahalgam saw 10 inches of snow, and Kokernag measured between 8-10 inches.
Meanwhile, the Srinagar-Jammu highway, the only surface link connecting the Valley with the outside world, remained closed due to snow accumulation, particularly between Ramsu and Qazigund. Besides, official sources told GNS that shooting stones, landslides, and mudslides are occurring between Nasri and the Navyug Tunnel.
Authorities have urged commuters to avoid travelling on the highway and to contact traffic control rooms for updates on the road status.
Earlier in the day, flight operations at Srinagar International Airport were also halted due to poor visibility and snowfall. However, services resumed later as weather conditions improved.
