Poonch: Home Minister of India Amit Shah visited Poonch on Friday and met families affected by Pakistani shelling and drone strikes during Operation Sindoor. Poonch saw the highest civilian toll, with 14 of the 28 deaths reported between May 7 and 10.
Speaking at a rally, Shah condemned Pakistan for targeting civilians, calling the attacks “cowardly,” and accused it of striking homes and temples in Jammu and Kashmir. He praised India’s precision missile strikes in retaliation and announced more border bunkers for civilian protection.
This was Shah’s first visit to Jammu and Kashmir since the launch of Operation Sindoor. He also visited religious sites and addressed BSF personnel, thanking them for their role in the operation and assuring support to affected families.
BJP leader Vikram Randhawa said the visit showed the Centre’s commitment to public security amid India-Pakistan tensions.
On Thursday night, Shah chaired a security review meeting in Jammu, focusing on the upcoming Amarnath Yatra. He directed forces to stay on high alert and ensure smooth conduct of the pilgrimage, which is scheduled from July 3 to August 9.
