New Delhi: A 16-hour-long debate on Operation Sindoor has been scheduled for next week in Parliament, following persistent demands from the Opposition. The decision was announced by the Business Advisory Committee.
The Opposition had insisted that the discussion take place this week itself and that Prime Minister Narendra Modi respond to it personally. However, the debate was deferred to next week due to the Prime Minister’s scheduled foreign visit.
Operation Sindoor — India’s military retaliation to the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir — was one of eight subjects the Opposition had sought to debate during the Monsoon Session. These issues were identified during a marathon virtual meeting last week involving 24 Opposition parties.
According to sources quoted in NDTV report, the government gave its nod to hold the debate on Operation Sindoor after internal deliberations.
Earlier today, ahead of the Monsoon Session, Modi addressed the media and hailed Operation Sindoor as a ‘Vijay Utsav’ (victory celebration), calling it a powerful display of the Indian Armed Forces’ strength and precision.
“This Monsoon Session is a ‘Vijay Utsav’,” the Prime Minister said. “The entire world has witnessed the might of our forces. The mission’s objective was fulfilled with 100 per cent success. In just 22 minutes, our troops killed terrorists deep inside their hideouts.”
