New Delhi: The Lok Sabha witnessed fiery exchanges on Monday as opposition leaders from Trinamool Congress (TMC) and Shiv Sena (UBT) raised sharp questions on the government of India’s handling of the Pahalgam terror attack and its aftermath.
TMC MP Kalyan Banerjee directly targeted Prime Minister Narendra Modi, accusing him of being silent in front of the United States. “The American President has repeatedly claimed to have mediated the ceasefire. Why has PM Modi never denied it publicly? Why did he not even tweet to counter these claims?” Banerjee asked, adding, “When Modi meets the US President, his chest shrinks from 56 inches to 36. Why this fear?”
Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Arvind Sawant said. “Why was there no security at one of the most popular tourist spots in Kashmir on the day of the attack? Who ordered the withdrawal of armed forces from that area? This is where the investigation must begin,” he said.
Both leaders demanded transparency on how terrorists managed to strike a high-security region, and called for a joint parliamentary committee to investigate the lapses. The TMC also demanded the release of internal communications regarding troop movements ahead of the attack.
While the government highlighted its military response through Operation Sindoor, the opposition maintained that questions of security failure and political accountability remain unanswered. “The government cannot simply wrap itself in the flag and avoid hard questions,” Banerjee concluded.
