New Delhi: Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi on Monday launched a blistering attack on the Modi government during the Lok Sabha debate on Operation Sindoor, questioning the government of India’s preparedness and accountability following the Pahalgam terror attack.
“The Defence Minister spoke at length but failed to explain how 26 people, including a local Kashmiri resident, were killed in Pahalgam despite heavy security in the Valley,” Gogoi said. He pressed for answers on why there were lapses in deployment at a known tourist destination and asked, “Why didn’t the Prime Minister visit Pahalgam? Why did he attend political rallies instead?”
He further questioned the decision to halt Operation Sindoor. “If Pakistan was ready to kneel, why did we stop? Who asked us to hold fire? Was this influenced by external pressure?” Gogoi asked, referencing repeated claims by the former US President that he had mediated a ceasefire.
The Congress MP also criticised the government for not directly naming China despite the Army’s warning of potential multi-front threats. “Lt Gen Rahul R Singh warned of convergence between Pakistan, China, and even Bangladesh. Yet, the Defence Minister didn’t name China once. What are we hiding?” he said.
In a sharp comment aimed at the government’s public image, Gogoi said, “The government hides behind the Lieutenant Governor of J&K when things go wrong, but claims credit for every success.”
He ended his address by urging the Prime Minister and Defence Minister to come clean on fighter losses, ceasefire reasons, and long-term plans to ensure such attacks aren’t repeated.
