Flash floods hit Frislan, Batkoot areas of Pahalgam; rescue Op underway in Kishtwar, 12 bodies recovered

Severe weather events have struck JK today, leading to flash floods and major casualties.

Pahalgam: Flash floods have occurred in Frislan and Batkoot areas of Pahalgam, following heavy rainfall.

The Lidder Nallah’s water level rose near flood limits, raising concerns among residents and authorities. While the situation is being monitored, no casualties have been reported so far.

Kishtwar

Today, massive cloudburst struck the Chositi area in Kishtwar district, triggering flash floods along the Machail Mata Yatra route. At least 12 bodies have been recovered, and several persons are feared dead.

The cloudburst occurred when devotees were en route to the Machail Mata shrine, washing away a langar (community kitchen) and disrupting the pilgrimage. Rescue operations are underway, with teams from the Army, NDRF, SDRF, and local police mobilized to assist affected individuals. The Machail Mata Yatra has been suspended until further notice.

Authorities are working to provide relief and rescue services to the affected regions.

Government of India Minister Dr Jitendra Singh has assured all possible assistance to the affected families, and local MLA Sunil Kumar Sharma is coordinating with the administration to ensure timely aid.
