Bandipora: At least 10 people were injured on Wednesday afternoon when the ceiling of a residential house collapsed during a condolence gathering in Chandergair village of the Hajin area in north Kashmir’s Bandipora district.
Preliminary reports said the structure gave way while a large number of people had assembled inside to pay respects to a grieving family, causing debris to fall on attendees. Rescue teams and local health officials rushed the injured to a nearby hospital, where they are receiving treatment.
District authorities have launched an inquiry into the incident and are assessing whether structural weakness or weather conditions played a role.
Preliminary reports suggest the collapse may have been triggered by structural stress, officials said.
