Srinagar: Mirwaiz Umar Farooq has urged the Government of India to grant temporary release to jailed MP Engineer Rashid so he can meet his critically ill father admitted to SMHS Hospital.
In a statement, Mirwaiz said Rashid’s father, Khazir Mohammad Sheikh, is longing to see his son, who is currently lodged in Tihar Jail, adding that the meeting could be their last.
Highlighting the emotional toll on families, he described the suffering of political prisoners and their relatives across India and Jammu and Kashmir as “heartbreaking”.
He appealed to authorities to consider the request on humanitarian grounds and allow Rashid to meet his ailing father.
Mirwaiz also prayed for the recovery of Khazir Mohammad Sheikh and strength for the family during the difficult time.
