Srinagar: The Meteorological Centre Srinagar has forecast spells of rain and thundershowers across Jammu and Kashmir over the next week, with the possibility of heavy to torrential rain in parts of the Jammu division.

An official of the MeT department told GNS that July 30-31 is likely to witness one or two spells of light to moderate rain and thundershowers at most places during the afternoon, evening and early morning hours. The MeT office has warned of brief, intense, heavy showers and torrential rain at a few places in the Jammu division during this period.

On August 1, a spell of light rain or a brief thundershower is expected at scattered places, with the possibility of brief intense showers.

August 2-4 may witness a few spells of light to moderate rain and thundershowers at many places, mainly during the afternoon, evening and early morning hours. Heavy rain and brief intense heavy showers are again likely over a few districts of the Jammu division.

From August 5-7, light to moderate rain or thundershowers are possible at scattered places, along with brief intense showers.

The MeT department has issued an advisory warning of heavy rain and brief intense heavy showers in a few districts of the Jammu division on July 30, 31, and August 2 and 3.

It said torrential rain and brief intense heavy showers may trigger flash floods and landslides at vulnerable locations.

People have been advised to remain alert and avoid travelling to hilly and low-lying areas prone to waterlogging during the wet spell.
