Rennes-Bretagne Airport was briefly shut down on Friday after a security incident involving an object led to a road closure and a halt to local buses, local media reported. Explosives specialists then examined the object and found neither hazardous material nor explosives. No injuries were reported.
The airport’s bus link to the terminal building in the town of Saint-Jacques-de-la-Lande is still closed.
It is not yet clear whether airport passengers will face delays or cancelled flights. On Aug 26, Celine Berthon, chief of France’s domestic intelligence agency, warned about escalating security risks in Europe after an explosive drone was found at the German Leipzig-Halle Airport next to a Ukrainian cargo aeroplane on the ground.
Local police announced at the Rennes airport’s terminal building that the restrictions on public areas would be lifted after an official safety certification is announced.
