Three people were injured an attack on a customs checkpoint in the southwestern Pakistani province of Balochistan on Tuesday morning, officials with the Balochistan civil defence authorities said.

The attack was reported in the Ziarat Cross area, where the customs checkpoint was said to be the target. It was unclear what kind of weapons were used in the attack or if the customs checkpoint was damaged.

The injured individuals were taken for medical attention, the civil defence officials stated.

Their medical conditions remain unknown at this time. No group has so far claimed responsibility for the attack.

The attack comes amid a protracted security crisis in Balochistan, with militants regularly launching attacks and acts of armed violence against security forces, government facilities and other infrastructure in the province.

The country’s security agencies are expected to launch an investigation into the incident in a bid to find the attackers, officials said.

In recent months, there have been various incidents of a similar violent nature across Pakistan in its Balochistan region, and the security forces have stepped up their actions in the province in recent weeks.
