Iran said Wednesday it had launched missile and drone attacks on US military interests in Kuwait, Bahrain, and Jordan in response to American strikes on Iranian targets, which Tehran claimed killed 11 people.
Iranian media said the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps struck US-linked facilities in the three countries. The US military did not immediately confirm damage or casualties from the reported strikes.
Iranian forces claimed to have fired ballistic missiles at two US aircraft in Jordan bases. Jordan’s military said it intercepted 10 of 13 missiles fired at the country, with the rest falling in remote areas. It did not immediately report any casualties.
While Kuwait’s military said its air defenses were responding to “hostile missile and drone attacks.” Bahrain issued alerts urging residents to take precautions.
The attacks occurred as yet another round of US attacks on Iranian military sites. Seven people were killed in attacks on three sites in Iran’s Khuzestan province, state-run IRNA reported, as well as four people killed in a reported strike near a wedding gathering in southern Iran.
The latest flare-up has stoked fears the conflict could spill further across the Gulf and threaten regional security and energy supplies.
