Israeli forces shelled areas south of Khan Yunis in the southern Gaza Strip, Palestinian media reported, in the latest reported violence despite a ceasefire in the territory.
The shelling struck areas near Bani Suheila, south of Khan Yunis, Palestinian media stated. Reports said smoke shells were also fired near the Bani Suheila roundabout, causing panic among displaced Palestinians in the area.
The reported shelling comes amid continuing exchanges of fire and other incidents across Gaza. Palestinian media have reported Israeli artillery fire and gunfire in and around Khan Yunis in recent days, including attacks near Hamad City and areas east of the city.
Palestinian health authorities said Wednesday that hospitals in Gaza received seven bodies and 25 wounded people over the previous 24 hours, with some victims still unreachable under rubble or in areas where emergency crews faced difficulties accessing them.
Israel has continued military operations in Gaza, saying its forces are targeting Hamas infrastructure and armed militants. The Israeli military’s latest updates say troops have been operating in the Khan Yunis area and conducting strikes against what it describes as militant targets.
