At least eight people kidnapped by Allied Democratic Forces rebels have been released in the Teturi area of Ituri province in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo but at least 30 others are missing, local reports say.
The freed hostages were released in the Teturi area.
At least 30 others are still missing and there are fears they may still be held by the ADF, an armed group responsible for repeated attacks and abductions in eastern Congo.
Ituri has been the scene of continuing violence by the ADF and other armed groups, with civilians frequently caught up in attacks, displacement and kidnappings. In November 2025, The International Committee of the Red Cross said armed violence in Ituri continued to kill, displace, abduct and abuse civilians.
Despite military operations to dismantle the group, the ADF has operated in Ituri and the neighboring province of North Kivu.
Authorities and local communities continue their search for the missing people.
