Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated Indian wushu player Naorem Roshibina Devi on Thursday after she bagged a silver medal in the women’s Sanda 60 kilogram event at the Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan.
The medal was Roshibina’s third-straight Asian Games podium. She also won a bronze at Jakarta 2018, having claimed silver at Hangzhou 2023 before Aichi-Nagoya. She is the first Indian wushu player to win medals in three successive Asian Games, IANS reported.
In the final, Roshibina lost 2-0 to China’s Zhang Xiaoyu, with the Chinese fighter winning both rounds by unanimous judges’ decisions, DD India reported.
“Congratulations to Naorem Roshibina Devi on winning the Silver Medal in the Women’s Sanda 60kg event. This is a noteworthy achievement…winning medals in 3 consecutive Asian Games. Her consistency, courage and determination are truly commendable. Best wishes for all future endeavours,” Modi said in a post on X, as per the Prime Minister’s Office.
Earlier, Roshibina, 25, had beaten Indonesia’s Thania Kusumaningtyas 2-0 in the semifinals to enter the final.
