Esha Singh continued India’s fine run at the Asian Games on Monday, adding another medal to the country’s tally as the shooting campaign continued to deliver silver in the women’s 25-metre pistol event.
Singh, who was among the top eight in qualification, made it to the final. She eventually lost to China’s Xiao Jiaruixuan in a shoot-off for the gold medal, reports said.
It was Singh’s third Asian Games medal. She had won two silver medals in the women’s 10-metre air pistol individual and team events in the last edition in Hangzhou.
India also finished fifth in the women’s 25-metre pistol team event, with Singh, Manu Bhaker and Rahi Sarnobat combining for 1,727-56x. China won the gold, South Korea the silver and Chinese Taipei the bronze.
In contrast, Anahat Singh had already secured a silver medal spot in the women’s singles squash event on Sunday after she was defeated by Malaysia’s Sivasangari Subramaniam in the final. The 18-year-old became the third Indian woman to win a silver in Asian Games squash singles.
India began Monday with a medal tally of 37 — four gold, 16 silver and 17 bronze.
