According to Al Jazeera, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps has directly appealed to the American people to pressure the United States to stop what it called “war crimes” in the Middle East and accused President Donald Trump of lying about the conflict.
Al Jazeera said an IRGC spokesman called Trump a “big liar” and said the United States had no choice but to leave the Middle East.
Iran and the United States were continuing efforts through regional mediators to seek a diplomatic path to end the conflict when the remarks came. Iranian officials have said Tehran is ready to talk but has demanded an end to the war and other conditions.
Iranian officials have repeatedly called for an end to US naval blockade and the unfreezing of Iranian assets abroad.
The latest comments came as Qatar, which has been mediating between Tehran and Washington, resumed diplomatic activity. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has been in talks with mediators as both sides consider potential terms of talks.
According to the United States, any potential agreement with Iran would still focus on nuclear issues. President Trump denied reports that Washington had offered sanctions relief and access to frozen funds to Tehran separately, saying he had offered Iran “NOTHING.”
