Indian squash player Anahat Singh’s run at the Silicon Valley Open came to an end on Friday after she was beaten 5-11, 11-6, 11-4, 11-7 by Malaysia’s Sivasangari Subramaniam in the semi-finals in Redwood City, California.
The 18-year-old began well, capturing the first game but world No. 4 Subramaniam fought back to take the remaining three games and complete the victory in 37 minutes, The Indian Express reported.
The loss brought an end to Singh’s run in the tournament at PSA Gold level, but Singh registered her best performance at this level. Singh was the first Indian woman since 2019 to reach the semi-final stage of a PSA Gold tournament.
Singh had booked her semi-final place after a five-game defeat of Egypt’s Salma Hany. Singh had also beaten eight-time world champion Nour El Sherbini in straight games earlier in the week.
“Anahat is very talented, very attacking, very dangerous. She has beaten a lot of the top girls already,” said Subramaniam after the match, reported by The Indian Express.
The Malaysian said she was a slow starter but was pleased with her recovery and the way she finished the contest.
That brought yet another setback for Singh, who was also defeated by Subramaniam in the women’s singles final at the 2026 Asian Games in Japan.
