Srinagar: Police on Sunday claimed to have killed two fidayeen (suicide attackers) in Kupwara district of Kashmir.
J&K Police posted on its official Facebook page that two Fidayeen who belonged to Lashkar-i-Toiba were killed in Handwara area of the district which borders Pakistan Administered Kashmir (PaK).
“02 Fidayeen of LeT killed by SOG/Army of Magam Distt Handwara in a brief encounter just now,” JKP’s FB page read.
Police sources revealed to FPK that the militants were killed in Waripora area of Handwara in the district.
They added that that a joint team of police and 21 RR had cordoned off Waripora area after receiving information about presence of militants. “The slain militants are foreigners,” sources said.
They added that following the cordon and search operation, “the hiding militants opened fire triggering an encounter”. “Our forces retaliated which resulted in death of two militants.”
