Army Men Stop Bus In Anantnag, Parade Passengers, ‘Thrash’ Students

Srinagar: Army men on Tuesday morning thrashed college going students in Anantnag district sparking protests.

Reports and local sources told the FPK that an army Casper from 19 RR based in Larkipora stopped a mini-407 bus this morning.

“After parading the passengers, students were brought out and the army men started checking their identification cards,” sources said. “The army men immediately started beating the students who were five in number.”

The sources said that the students were freed “only after intervention by female passengers”. They belonged to the Government Degree College Dooru.

“One of the five students was injured,” they added. The student, resident of Larkipora, has been identified as Rouf Ahmad.

Local reports said that the action by the army men triggered shutdown in Larkipora and adjoining areas.

“Students from the Government Degree College Dooru and a Government Higher Secondary School came out on roads against the incident,” sources informed.

When contacted the Indian Army’s Srinagar based spokesperson, Col Rajesh Kalia, told the FPK, “I don’t have any information yet but I will seek details if anything has happened before responding to the allegations made by people.”

Kashmir valley is witnessing student protests ever since the men in uniform entered a government degree college in the Pulwama district last month. The entry of the army men angered the students, resulting in clashes during which many of them sustained injuries. And since then there has been no end to such scenes across Kashmir.

Today, once again, the students came out on the roads in Hajin town in Bandipora district and Pattan town in Baramulla district. Clashes have erupted and situation is still tense in these two areas.
