‘Why not (tie) the person (to army jeep) who stitched PDP-BJP Alliance?’: Congress

Srinagar: Indian national Congress (INC) on Monday while reacting to the statement of Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) member of Parliament Paresh Rawal, asked “why not to tie the person to an army jeep” who stitched the PDP-BJP alliance in Jammu and Kashmir.

In a late night statement by actor turned politician, Paresh Rawal, which he posted on social networking site, Twitter, he wrote, “Instead of tying stone pelter on the army jeep tie Arundhati Roy!”

Roy, an award winning author who has come up with her second novel ‘Ministry of utmost happiness’, is popular amongst people of Kashmir for her “unbiased position on the issue of Kashmir”.

Reacting to the actor-turned-politicians’s tweet, AICC general secretary Digvijay Singh wrote on Twitter asking Rawal why not tie the “person who stitched PDP/BJP alliance”.

Rawal, who won debut 2014 Lok Sabha elections from Gujarat on a BJP ticket, referred to an incident which shook the world in April. A carpet weaver, Farooq Ahmad Dar, was tied to an army jeep in Budgam district after Srinagar Lok Sabha by-poll in April by a major rank officer, Nitin Gogoi. He belongs to 53 RR of the Indian Army and is facing an enquiry.

The Major used Dar as a human shield by parading him through at least twelve villages in Budgam where forces claimed youth attacked them with stones.

The video of the incident was first tweeted by Jammu and Kashmir Opposition leader Omar Abdullah triggering widespread outrage which led to a commission of inquiry by the Army.
