Kashmiri youth charged for alleged sexual harassment in Bengaluru, spends one night in custody, released

Srinagar: A Kashmiri youth who was arrested in South Indian state of Karnataka on charges of alleged molestation has been bailed out by a local court.

A top cop at MICO Layout Police Station Bengaluru told the FreePressKashmir that a lady had registered a complaint against one Habib Gani Malik some days ago.

“A lady came to us who alleged that Malik tried to molest her by holding her hand,” Station House Officer MICO Layout Police Station told the FreePressKashmir over phone from Bengaluru.

Malik works partly at a BPO company in Bangalore and is resident of Gool area in Ramban district.

He was booked under section 354 of Indian Penal Code (IPC).

Given the profile of his job, police said, Malik was in contact with hundreds of people.

“He had used the contacts for his own person,” the SHO said. “There is a SIM which the company had provided him but Malik was contacting people, especially girls, from his personal number.”

“The call details of his personal cell number showed that he was in contact with over two hundred girls,” he informed.

One of them, the SHO added, was the lady who registered the complaint. However, no FIR was lodged.

“After contacting her on phone, Malik offered his car to her in which the incident of ‘hand-holding’ has taken place,” he said.

“He was charged for harassing the lady,” he said adding that there is no other complaint against him.

“Some friends of Malik got bail and he has been released after spending one night in custody,” he said.
