Srinagar: In a bid to improve educational scenario in Ladakh region, the Minister for Education, Syed Mohammad Altaf Bukhari on Monday announced double remuneration for the candidates who are engaged under academic arrangements for the geographically tough region.
The Minister made this announcement while chairing a meeting to discuss the issues related to the GDC, Kargil which was attended by MLA Kargil, Asghar Ali Karbalai, Commissioner Secretary Higher Education, Dr Asghar Samoon and DC Kargil and other senior officers of the higher education department. Chief Executive Councilor, Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council, Rector Satellite Campus Kargil, Director Colleges, Nodal Principal Kashmir and Principal GDC Kargil also attended the meeting, an official spoeksperson said.
“Usually most of the candidates hesitate to go to Kargil because of certain reasons. But now onwards double remunerations shall be paid to those teachers who shall opt and are engaged under academic arrangements for Ladakh region,” Bukhari said adding that local candidates shall be given preference for engagement for Ladakh colleges.
He said that candidates shall be engaged for the academic arrangement by the Nodal Principal Kashmir on the recommendations of Principal GDC Kargil in subjects where there is deficiency of the staff.
The Minister released Rs 20 lakh through Higher Education Department out of Central Pool fund to GDC Kargil for remuneration of academic arrangement of candidates.
Bukhari directed the transfer of GDC Kargil from District CAPEX budget to State CAPEX budget of Higher Education Department.
He also directed that all examinations of GDCs in Ladakh to be conducted on time by university of Kashmir through its off-site campuses at Kargil and Leh.
During the meeting it was decided that all examinations of Government degree colleges in Ladakh shall be conducted in time by university of Kashmir through its off-site campuses at Kargil and Leh.
To overcome the shortage of teaching staff, Bukhari said that additional faculty in English, Geography, Sociology, Urdu, Economics; Political science shall be arranged by Higher Education Department through the rationalization of posts.
The minister also approved the construction of multiple-purpose Examination Hall in GDC Kargil. He also directed the officials to shift the DIET Kargil to its new campus at Chutuk within two weeks time and the existing infrastructure of old DIET campus shall be utilized by GDC, Kargil.
The meeting was informed that the construction of additional classroom block at GDC Kargil stand already approved and administrative approval stand accorded at an estimated cost of Rs 571.42 lakh and Rs 35 lakh were also released to PWD Kargil.
DC Kargil and Ex Engineer PWD Kargil were directed to submit the Utilization Certificate to higher education department against the expended funds.
