Srinagar: Two para-military CRPF personnel were injured in a suspected militant attack in Pulwama district.

A police official told the FreePressKashmir that a grenade was hurled at 180 battalion of CRPF in main town Tral which lies south of Srinagar city on Monday night while the Muslim population was busy offering special Ramzan prayers.

Tral is almost 38 km away from Lal Chowk.

“Two CRPF men received very minor injuries,” the police official said. He added that they were rushed to sub-district hospital Tral wherefrom they have been discharged.

Situated amidst lush green forests, Tral is hot bed of militancy.

It is home town of top Hizb ul Mujahideen commanders whose death triggered massive anti-India uprising.

Slain Burhan Muzaffar Wani and Sabzar Ahmad Bhat are residents of the same area.

Early in the day, intense clashes erupted between civilian population of Marhama village in Anantnag district and Indian armed forces after the latter tried to lay cordon and search operation (CASO).

The CASO was resisted by the people who came out on roads and started pelting stones on the armed forces.

The Indian armed forces fired tear smoke shells and stun grenades to disperse the protesters.

Locals of the area alleged that the men in uniform resorted to damaging the private property. The armed forces vandalised the property and broke the window panes as well.

A youth from the area said that his Pulsar bike was damaged beyond repair.
