Dogra Raj carried out 1931 massacre, why would BJP pay homage: Abdullah

Srinagar: Former Chief Minister Farooq Abdullah while paying glowing tributes to the 1931 Martyrs lashed out at the BJP for skipping the event.

The member of the Parliament from Srinagar said that it was Dogras who carried out the massacre and how can BJP pay homage to the Martyrs.

On July 13, 1931, 22 people were killed in firing by the forces of Maharaja Hari Singh outside the Srinagar Central Jail, where an in-camera trial of Abdul Qadeer, a freedom fighter, was being held.

“Dogra Raj had carried out this [massacre], how they [BJP legislators] can come [here to pay homage]?” Abdullah told reporters.

He further added that BJP’s vote ban lies in Jammu, where Dogras live, so they didn’t visit the graveyard to pay homage with the alliance partners, the PDP.

“Their vote-bank lies there (Jammu). It is obvious they wouldn’t accompany them [PDP],” Abdullah said.

This is the third consecutive year that the BJP has skipped the event.
