Three militants killed in a gunfight in Tral identified

Srinagar: An official said that the three militants killed in a gunfight with the Indian Armed Forces in Tral have been identified as Zahid Ahmed Bhat from Nawdal Tral, Ishfaq Ahmed from Batgund Tral and Ashraf Dar from Trich Pulwama.

Three militants were killed in an ongoing gunfight in Gulab Bagh village of Tral in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Wednesday, police said.

A gunfight broke out between the Indian Armed Forces and militants in Gulab Bagh (Wani Bout) village of Tral in Pulwama district on Wednesday afternoon.

As per a report in Greater Kashmir, a newspaper based in Srinagar, two out of three militants were killed in the ongoing encounter.

Gunshots were heard and immediately a joint team of Army’s 42 RR unit and J&K police launched a search operation in the village.

“A few gunshots were heard at around 12:45 pm following which a search operation was launched,” a police official according to the report had said earlier.

Reports had said that the two, three militants are believed to be trapped in the area.

All shops and business establishments got closed soon after the news about the encounter spread in the town.

An official said that three militants have been killed so far. “The operation is going on,” he said.

Earlier, army’s 42 RR and SOG of Jammu and Kashmir police cordoned off the area after gunshots were heard.
