LeT operative who had joined ranks recently, arrested: Police

Srinagar: Police on Thursday said that they have arrested a Lashkar-e-Toiba militant who had joined their ranks recently.

The arrested militant was identified as Ishfaq Ahmad Kanna, a resident of Jamia-Qadeem, Sopore.

“Today, a joint Naka of Police Sopore, 52 RR and 177 CRPF Bn. was established on Seer Amargarh Road near Railway Crossing Seer Sopore. During Naka checking, one suspected person jumped the Naka and fled to a nearby orchard. Accordingly, the said area was cordoned off by the Police and security forces and the suspected person was apprehended,” said a spokesman.

 

Police also added that one pistol, two pistol magazines, three rounds and four UBGL grenades were recovered from his possession.

A police spokesman also informed that before joining LeT, Kanna was an active Over Ground Worker of the Lashkar.

“The said militant was part of Lashkar Module in north Kashmir. Before joining LeT outfit, he worked as an active recruiter/OGW for the outfit in Sopore and other areas of North Kashmir. He was involved in case FIR No. 126/2012 U/S 307 RPC 7/27 A. Act in a Grenade throwing case on Police Station Sopore.”
