Lawmaker’s attempt to hoist black flag on August 15 foiled by police

Srinagar: MLA Langate Engineer Rashid was on Tuesday detained by the police after he attempted to move towards Bakshi Stadium to hoist a black flag on the eve of India’s Independence Day.

According to a statement from Rasheed, breaking strict restrictions a number of Awami Itihad Party volunteers carried out a march with black flags in their hands and chanted pro-plebiscite slogans, from Rasheed’s residence at Jawahar Nagar to mark the black day on eve of India’s independence Day, AIP spokesperson said in a statement.

Protestors managed to open the main gate of Rasheed’s residence and started marching towards Bhakshi Stadium. However huge contingent of police used force to disperse the mob and detained Rasheed along with two dozen protestors and lodged them in police station Rajbagh, the statement added.

Statement added that, during the scuffle three protestors sustained injuries and two of whom were hospitalized.

Before being detained Rasheed while talking to media persons accused the Prime Minister Narindera Modi of just playing with the words like his predecessors.

Rasheed said that like successive Indian Prime Ministers Narinder Modi has yet again tried to misled world community by claiming to throw his arms open for Kashmiris and embracing them.
