Thousands participate in the funeral prayers of slain militants in Kulgam

Srinagar: Thousands of people on Monday participated in the funeral prayers of two Hizb-ul-Mujahideen militants killed in a gunfight with the Indian Armed forces in Khudwani area of Kulgam district of south Kashmir.

According to reports, five rounds of funeral prayers were held for Dawood Illahi Khan in Hawoora village while four rounds were held for Sayar Ahmad Wani in Wanpora. Pro-freedom and pro-Islam slogans were raised during the last rites of both the militants who were killed in an early morning gunfight with forces in Kulgam.

Earlier today, at around 3am, the armed forces company cordoned off a village in Khudwani area, when they were fired upon by holed up militants.

This comes hours after Shopian encounter on Sunday, wherein a Hizbul militant was killed and another caught alive, first in many years.
