SHRC takes cognizance of braid chopping incidents

Directs Civil, Police admin to submit Compliance Report within 2 weeks

Srinagar: State Human Rights Commission has taken a serious note of braid-chopping incidents in different parts of Valley and has directed Civil and Police Officials to submit Compliance Report within 2 weeks.

While hearing a petition under no: 297/Sgr/2017 filed by local human rights organization International Forum for Justice and Human Rights Chairman Ahsan Untoo on 28th Sep 2017 and another petition by human rights activist M M Shuja under number SHRC/301/Sgr/2017, the Chairperson SHRC retired Justice Bilal Nazki issued separate notices to IGP Kashmir, Divisional Commissioner Kashmir and all District Magistrates of Valley and directed them to submit Compliance report with regard to Braid-Chopping incidents in Kashmir.

Untoo said that he had submitted a petition in SHRC regarding braid chopping incidents and the SHRC Chairperson issued separate notices to the top officials of Civil and Police Administration to submit compliance report regarding braid chopping incidents, list of victims and FIR’s registered in police stations.

The chairman SHRC also directed Police Department to initiate a time-bound enquiry of such incidents, Untoo said. The next hearing of the case has been scheduled on October 23.
