PDP has utterly failed to uncover mystery behind braid chopping: Mir

Srinagar: The ruling dispensation led by PDP has utterly failed to uncover the mystery behind braid chopping, said J&K Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) President G.A. Mir.

Mir expressed serious concern over the continuous incidents of braid chopping, and sought clarity from the Govt as to why the state machinery has not been able to nab and identify the culprits so far.

In a statement, Mir who was on tour to Dooru Verinag visited a braid chopping victim (Daniya) of Verinag, a class 8th student and enquired about her health, where he was told by the victim’s family that their ward is undergoing trauma due to this shameful incident and is not in a position to come out of the shock.

Slamming the PDP led dispensation for failing to ensure security of women Mir emphasized the people in entire Kashmir valley to remain vigilant, as the PDP led Govt is not in a position to ensure safety of women, which is near about 50% of the population. He added that this is the height of things that despite dozens of braid chopping incidents Govt has not been able to uncover the mystery behind braid chopping, which is indicative of utter failure of the Govt on all fronts.

Mir described the braid chopping as an attempt to create fear psychosis among the women, besides putting a big question mark on the ruling dispensation, which is credited of creating a history of misrule, mis-management and failures on all counts.

Seeking explanation from the Govt, Mir added that braid chopping is an attack on the modesty of the women, which will not be tolerated.

Stating that it will be quite difficult for the victims to come out of the fear and trauma they have undergone due to braid chopping,  Mir asked the Govt to provide compensation to victims to the tune of Rs. one crore, for the fact it will not be less than a tribulation and social stigma for the victim.

He strongly urged upon the Govt to take effective measures to ascertain the identity of braid choppers for severe punishment, thereby ensuring that no more braid chopping incidents takes place.
