Police registers case against six for rumor mongering
Kangan: Locals on Saturday mistook a mentally deranged man for a braid chopper and thrashed him in Kangan area of central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district.
Reports said that the man was caught by the locals after he was found moving “suspiciously” in Main Market, Kangan.
Reports added that the man was carrying a handbag which raised suspicion amongst the passers-by. The crowd then gathered, caught hold of him, and thrashed him.
They said that he was thrashed by locals before being handed over to the police.
A police official told the FreePressKashmir that the victim who was thrashed is mentally unstable, and a torn and an empty bag was recovered from him.
An investigation in the matter is going on.
The official said that an FIR has been lodged against six persons over rumour mongering and disturbance of law and order.
