Have reasons to believe that TA soldier was killed by deserter who joined HM: Army

Srinagar: The Army has said that Irfan Dar, the 23- year old Territorial Army man might have been killed by Zahoor Thokar, who deserted the Territorial Army and joined the militant outfit Hizbul Mujahideen.

The Tribune India, while quoting Army officials reported that the initial investigations point out that Zahoor might have been a part of the three member militant squad who killed Dar in a apple orchard in Sazan in Shopian recently.

“We have certain reasons to believe that Zahoor was involved in the killing of the TA soldier. But confirmation is still awaited,” an Army officer privy to the investigations told Tribune India.

He also informed that three militants had intercepted his car and shot him dead.

Another Army official said that Dar was not abducted and after his killing Zahoor was spotted in the area.

“Dar, who was on leave, was not abducted as the initial report stated. We also came to know through our sources that Zahoor was spotted around the area after the killing of Dar,” another Army officer, according to the report said.

According to the police Zahoor and Dar underwent the course together and knew each other well. Moreover, they had joined the Territorial Army same year.
