‘Police is unnecessarily creating hurdles in their release’
Srinagar: Hurriyat Conference (G) on Monday expressed serious concerns over the continuous detention of Shah Wali Mohammad, Omer Adil Dar, Molana Mudasir Nadvi and Ab Ahad and while demanding their immediate release, said that police is unnecessarily creating hurdles in their release.
Denying political space, choking genuine voices and continuous crackdown against pro- freedom leaders and activists are deliberate acts to disrupt situation and create uncertainty in state,” Hurriyat (G) said in a statement.
Lamenting police for their callous approach, Hurriyat Conference (G) said that police authorities are creating hurdles during the meeting between prisoners and their families and these meetings are often denied.
Hurriyat (G) while referring to its ailing Tehreek-e-Huriyat leaders including Mir Hafeez Ullah and Mohammad Yusuf Falahi, said that no proper medical facility is provided adding that the incarcerated leader’s health condition is deteriorating alarmingly due to the lack of proper medication and health care.
“Detainees in jail are also deliberately harassed and tor¬mented by the authorities. All this is done in complete viola¬tion of the jail manual which lays emphasis on the honor and dignity of prisoners,” said Hurriyat (G).
Referring to its elderly leader, Shah Wali Mohammad, Hurriyat Conference (G) said, it is extremely unfortunate that on the directions of a callous police officer deputed in district Baramulla, 80-year-old Tehreek-e-Huriyat leader, Shah Wali Mohammad has been detained in police station Sopore.
“His wife is suffering from cancer and her daughter is handicapped and there is no male member to look after his family,” said Hurriyat Conference (G) while strongly criticising authorities, adding that police are creating hurdles in prisoner’s release.
Demanding release of incarcerated pro-freedom leaders and activists, Hurriyat Conference said, “hundreds of innocent youth detained under frivolous cases are languishing in jails and police stations across the valley and most of them are detained under infamous Public Safety Act (PSA).”
Urging international human rights groups to take serious note of it, Hurriyat (G) said, “the woeful tale of miseries and tortures of Kashmiri prisoners in police stations and jails is an eye-opener for human rights defenders”.
Hurriyat also appealed to the International Red Cross and Amnesty International to take note of the pathetic condition of political detainees lodged in state and outside state jails.
