Two militants, nine OGWs of Jaish, Hizb arrested in Baramulla, claims Police

Srinagar: In a cordon and search operation, Police have claimed that they have arrested two active militants and nine Over Ground Workers in the Sopore area of Baramulla district.

Cops also said that a huge cache of arms and ammunition was also recovered from them.

Addressing a press conference, SSP Sopore Harmeet Singh said that in a joint cordon-and-search-operation launched by the police along with marine commandos (MARCOS), CRPF and 22RR of army at 10 pm on January 7 after they received “specific” inputs about the presence of militants in in the area.

“During the search operation, two active militants identified as Mushtaq Ahmad Chopan @haroon of Wagad Tral and Shuja-u-din Sheikh of Dadsara Tral were arrested,” he said.

The cops added that both of them had traveled to North Kashmir to recruit youth for Jaish-e-Mohammad and Hizbul Mujahideen.

Singh also informed that nine OGWs working for both outfits were also arrested.

“An AK 47 rifle, a magazine, 15 rounds, pistol and a magazine, two hand grenades, four mobile phones and three pistol rounds were recovered from their possession,” he said.

Police have registered a case and investigation in the matter is on.
