Srinagar: Kashmir’s chief cleric, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, on Friday said that his house detention had continued for the past week, alleging that police deployment and barricades remained in place outside his residence.
In a post on X, Mirwaiz expressed regret over his inability to deliver the Friday sermon at the historic Jama Masjid in Srinagar.
He said restrictions on his movement had prevented him from addressing the faithful, describing the measures as arbitrary and authoritarian.
Questioning the official narrative of normalcy in Kashmir, Mirwaiz said restrictions on freedom of movement and speech contradicted claims of normalcy in the region.
His statement comes amid continued restrictions on his movement, according to his post on social media.
