2000 Red Fort Attack: Court grants bail to businessman Bilal Kawa

New Delhi: A Delhi Court on Wednesday granted bail to Bilal Ahmad Kawa, who was arrested in connection with the 2000 Red Fort attack.

Patiala House Court granted bail to the Srinagar resident whose relatives had held numerous protests against his arrest. A Delhi court had earlier directed the Delhi Police to file its response by February 7 on the bail plea of Bilal Ahmed Kawa, a suspect in the 2000 Red Fort attack case.

Additional Sessions Judge had issued notice to the Special Cell of the Delhi Police on the application moved by Kawa.

The court said that: “Other accused in Red Fort case with more serious allegations have already been discharged. More importantly, Bilal Ahmed Kawa has no criminal antecedents and so why he was arrested in the first place.”

Kawa was arrested on January 10 in New Delhi in a joint operation by the Delhi Police and the Gujarat Anti- Terrorism Squad.

Back in Srinagar, the family members said that it vindicated their statement that Bilal is innocent and was framed in a false case.
