Karan Nagar gunfight: Two militants have been killed, combing operation on: Police

Srinagar: The gunfight at Karan Nagar area of Srinagar, which entered its second day on Tuesday, ended with the killing of the second militant, claimed the police.

The gun fight which had erupted during the wee hours of Monday when Fidayeen (suicide squad) tried to attack a CRPF camp in the area. However, according to the police an alert sentry spotted the militants and engaged them.

An official said that the exchange of fire has stopped now. “A combing operation is on,” he said, adding that they were ascertaining the identity of the slain militants.

Earlier, DGP SP Vaid said a militant of Lashkar-e-Toiba has been killed in the gunfight that also left a CRPF trooper dead and a policeman injured.

Zulfiqar Hasan, IG Operation, CRPF had earlier told reporters that they were operating cautiously to avoid any collateral damage to citizens and property. Militant outfit Lashkar-e-Toiba had on Monday claimed the responsibility in the attack.

On Monday, a constable of the CRPF was killed during the gun fight. Also, a cop was injured too.  Rajesh Yadav, PRO of the Force said that Mujahid Khan of 49 Bn, succumbed to his injuries at the site of the gun fight.
