After IAF officer, now an Army man arrested for ‘leaking information to Pakistan’

Srinagar: A Lieutenant Colonel of the Indian Army has been arrested by the intelligence agencies in Madhya Pradesh on charges of leaking classified information and documents of the army to Pakistan, reported the Times of India.

A week prior, a group captain of the Indian Air Force was arrested by the intelligence on similar charges.

According to the report, the residence of the Lieutenant Colonel posted at a base headquarters in Jabalpur was raided by Army’s counter intelligence(CI) and Military intelligence(MI).

The report added that the arrested officer might have been ‘honey trapped’ or fallen prey to ‘spear phishing’ by Pakistan’s ISI. Spear phishing is a targeted e-mail-spoofing attack, different from phishing for financial gain, and is solely aimed at unauthorized access to sensitive information.

The report further adds that the officials are tight lipped regarding the development however, sources told TOI that the officer was under watch from the past two months.

The report further adds that the take down team arrived in 14-15 vehicles and searched his office and quarters. The arrested officer is being questioned at the Army Central Command headquarters and is being moved to Lucknow for further investigations.
