Mehbooba thanks Modi for reducing Hajj airfare

Srinagar: Mehbooba Mufti, the chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir, thanked Narendra Modi for reducing the airfare to Hajj pilgrimage from this year.

She tweeted that the move will help more Muslims to undertake and experience the pilgrimage to the Holy Kaaba.

Earlier, the Government of India announced that Hajj pilgrims will no longer receive any subsidy this year onwards, with the government saying the decision is part of its agenda of empowerment of minorities without appeasement.

Union minister for minority affairs Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi said that the Haj subsidy has been withdrawn.

“This is part of our policy to empower minorities with dignity and without appeasement,” Naqvi told reporters.
