Mehbooba reaches Poonch, meets families displaced due to India-Pak shelling at Line of Control

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister, Mehbooba Mufti on Monday met with the displaced victim families of cross-border shelling in the Poonch sector of Jammu and Kashmir.

The visit comes a day after shelling in Balakote region of Pooch killed five members of the same family, when a mortar shell destroyed their house in Devta village.

The shelling has also reportedly resulted in injuries to five Indian soldiers.

“Met with displaced families & victims of shelling in Poonch this afternoon. A stark reminder that our future doesn’t only depend on the conflicts that take place, but more so on the solutions, we offer in response to them,” Mehbooba wrote on Twitter.

Earlier, the Minister for Education, Syed Mohammad Altaf Bukhari had announced that remedial classes would be arranged for the students of the schools closed in Jammu region due to cross-border shelling.

“Once the situation along the International Border and Line of Control (LoC) normalises, we would arrange remedial classes for the affected students,” Minister for Education had announced in the Legislative Assembly during his reply to the discussion on Demand for Grants of the education Department.

Earlier, several Legislators from Jammu, Kathua, Samba, Poonch and Rajouri, raised the issue in the House and expressed grave concern over the loss of precious academic time of the students due to continued border shelling.
