Srinagar: Opposition parties on Thursday lashed out at ruling party PDP after the Union government denied any proposal from Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti over the talks with Pakistan, terming it as ‘betrayal to the people of Kashmir.’

National Conference (NC) provincial president, Nasir Aslam Wani said that the Union Government’s statement is tantamount to ‘betrayal done with the people of Kashmir’.

“The government claims over the talks with Pakistan has proved hoax on the ground. All the promises done by the government with the people of Kashmir including agenda, employment and peace proved cruel joke,” he said.

Wani further stated that the people of Kashmir have no hope on the current regime as it has betrayed them on every front.

The government of India’s minister of state for home Hansraj Gangaram on Wednesday in a reply to a question had said that there is no proposal from Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti seeking a dialogue with Pakistan for bringing peace in the state, the Government of India (GoI) informed the Rajya Sabha

Independent MLA Engineer Rashid while terming it as an excuse from the government of India told KNS that If India would have been sincere; there would not have been a need for any proposal. “Who understands Kashmir problem more than India does,” asks Rashid.

He said that there is no other option than dialogue and government of India should initiate a fruitful and sincere dialogue and not merely for engaging people.

Vice President Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee, Ghulam Nabi Monga Ahmad said that it is a betrayal to the people of Kashmir.

“The present regime of PDP is befooling the people of Jammu and Kashmir. Mehbooba Mufti should have written to India about the importance of talks.” He said that PDP’s stand is rhetoric and is far away from the reality. “The government should understand that it is only talks that can make things peaceful between two nations.”
