Shopian teenager Adeeba Tak makes it to the prestigious Pennsylvania University

Srinagar: 17-year old Adeeba Tak from the Shopian district has secured admission in the prestigious University of Pennsylvania on a 100 percent scholarship.

She will be pursuing Mechanical Engineering from the University in United States.

Tak told Free Press Kashmir that at first she couldn’t believe that she has made it. “I came to know about this news on the morning of March 29 and it was like a dream come true.”

The teenager did her schooling from Shah Hamdaan Memorial Institute Shopian and passed her 12th from New Green Land High Secondary Shopian. Her father Noushad Qeysar Tak is an employee of the State Forest Corporation and her mother Laila Gulshan is a house wife. Adeeba has an elder sister who is currently perusing MBBS.

Tak credits her success to the coaching centre, RISE, which hand-picked her for the scholarship.

“Before joining RISE, I never thought that a girl from Kashmir can make it to US on a 100% scholarship. But the environment and the dedication of the teachers motivated me and inspired me,” she said.

Tak asserted that the women in our society should not allow gender to decide their capabilities.

“I have this message for the young students of Kashmir that dream big and always keep that courage and dedication to make those dreams come true. Girls in our society should not let their gender decide their capabilities and stay dedicated to their aspirations and dreams.”
