Shopian killings aftermath: TeH Chief Sehrai placed under house arrest

Srinagar: In wake of the civilian and militant killings in Shopian, Mohammad Ashraf Sehrai, the newly appointed chief of Tehreek-e-Hurriyat was put under house arrest.

Earlier, during the wee hours of Monday, JKLF chairman Mohammad Yasin Malik was also detained by the police in order to prevent him from leading any protests.

Hurriyat Conference (G) chief spokesperson G A Gulzar has also been lodged at Shergadi Police station. He was detained from his Gangbug residence.  Meanwhile, Hurriyat leaders Imtiyaz Haider and Muhammad Ashraf Laaya have also been detained.

In the aftermath of the Shopian killings, the Joint Resistance Leadership had called for a two day shutdown. All educational institutions and business establishments across the valley remained closed.

The government forces shot dead thirteen militants and four civilians in three different gunfight in two districts of south Kashmir. Three army men were also killed during the gunfights.

Over 200 civilians were also injured in various clashes across south Kashmir on Sunday.
