Kangan youth’s killing: Cop arrested, curfew imposed in the area

Srinagar: A constable of the Jammu and Kashmir police has been arrested and suspended over the killing of Gowhar Ahmed Rather, Kangan youth who succumbed to his injuries at SKIMS on Tuesday.

Following the death, a departmental enquiry was ordered by the Jammu and Kashmir Police.

“Consequent upon his prima facia involvement in case FIR No. 18/2018 u/s 307 RPC Selection Grade Constable Gulzar Ahmad (belt no. 422/Gbl) is hereby placed under suspension with immediate effect, pending enquiry,” reads an order issued by the SSP.

A magisterial enquiry has also been ordered into the killing of the youth.

Police had earlier claimed that Rather died during a police chase when he fell into a drain and injured his head. However, the hospital authorities said that he had a fire arm injury in his head.

Meanwhile, curfew was imposed in Kangan  and internet was also snapped after the death of Rather.

An official said that the step was taken to prevent ‘any law and order situation.’
