Shopian gunfight ends with the killing of five militants, says Police

The gun fight in Shopian has ended with the killings of five militants, said the top cop of the state SP Vaid.

In a tweet while congratulating the forces, Vaid said:


The identity of the slain militants was not immediately known.

The gunfight broke out at Badigam village after army’s 44 RR launched the cordon-and-search operation in the area. Army’s 23 Para Commandos, 34 RR, 3 RR, CRPF, and SOG were rushed as reinforcements after the contact with militants was established.

Earlier, intense clashes erupted near the gun fight site and many civilians are reportedly injured. Among them, one, who is critical, has been referred to Sringar for treatment.

The injured civilian has been identified as Asif Ahmad Mir (21), son of Ghulam Mohammad Mir, a resident of Rahmoo Pulwama, who has sustained a bullet injury in his head.

Meanwhile, the ‘missing’ Kashmir University Professor Dr Mohammad Rafi Bhat, is one of the militants who were trapped in the gunfight.
