Shopian Gunfight: Four militants killed, one civilian critically injured

In the ongoing Shopian gunfight, four militants have been killed at the Badigam area of the district. as the gunfight broke out, intense clashes erupted near the gun fight site and many civilians are reportedly injured. Among them, one, who is critical, has been referred to Sringar for treatment.

The injured civilian has been identified as Asif Ahmad Mir (21), son of Ghulam Mohammad Mir, a resident of Rahmoo Pulwama, who has sustained a bullet injury in his head.

Meanwhile, the police told news agency GNS that the bodies of the slain militants have been recovered along with as many rifles,”
He said that the identities of the militants are being ascertained. He said that the operation is going on in the area.

During the initial gunfight, one SOG man, Anil Kumar and an army man of 44 RR were injured.

Meanwhile, on Saturday reports came in the an Assistant Professor had gone missing. However, Dr Mohammad Rafi Bhat, is one of the militants the trapped in the gunfight.

The police have called the family of the professor from Chunduna, Ganderbal to persuade him to surrender, officials and family sources said, according to GNS news agency.

“We have contacted his family after coming to know that Rafi Ahmad has been trapped along with other militants at Badigam area of Shopian,” a police officer was quoted as saying.

Rafi’s brother, Imtiyaz Ahmad when contacted by GNS also confirmed that the family is on the way to Shopian. The family comprises of his mother, wife and the brother of Rafi, a contractual assistant professor at Kashmir University’s department of Sociology.

Meanwhile, reports said that at least fifteen scholars have also reached Shopian to persuade Bhat to surrender.
