US pullout from Iran Nuke deal: UN expresses ‘deep concern’, It is a serious mistake, says Obama

Amid global outrage after US President Donald Trump announced the country’s withdrawal from the Iran Nuclear Deal, former President Barcak Obama has called it a serious mistake. On the other hand, the United Nations has also expressed ‘deep concern’ over the pull out.

“I believe that the decision to put the JCPOA (Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action) at risk without any Iranian violation of the deal is a serious mistake,” Obama said in a statement soon after Trump announced his decision to withdraw from the agreement.

The former President said that the decision to pull the US out of the nuclear deal, signed with Iran, Russia, China, France the United Kingdom and Germany, was “misguided” and that it “turns our back on America’s closest allies.”

“The consistent flouting of agreements that our country is a party to risks eroding America’s credibility, and puts us at odds with the world’s major powers,” Obama said.

Meanwhile,  UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on Tuesday voiced “deep concern” over US President Donald Trump’s decision to pull America out of the 2015 Iran nuclear deal.

“I am deeply concerned by today’s (Tuesday) announcement that the US will be withdrawing from the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) and will begin reinstating US sanctions (against Iran),” said Guterres in a statement, using the official name of the July 2015 agreement between Iran and the six world powers of Britain, China, France, Germany, Russia and the US.

Saudi Arabia, however has welcomed the move saying that Iran used the accord to sow seeds of discord in the region.

However, Iran has said that they would stay in the deal with five other signatories. Under the deal signed in Vienna with six world powers – the US, UK, France, Germany, Russia, China and the European Union – Iran scaled back its uranium enrichment programme and promised not to pursue nuclear weapons.
