Restrictions were placed in parts of Downtown Srinagar in order to prevent protests against the recent civilian killings in Kashmir. Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, was also placed under house arrest ahead of the Friday congregational prayers.
An official said restrictions have been imposed in areas falling under the jurisdiction of five police stations in Downtown Srinagar.
The Joint Resistance Leadership had called for peaceful protests after Friday prayers against the recent killings in the valley.
Mirwaiz, in a tweet, said that ‘such curbs, restrictions and suppression will strengthen the resolve of the people.’
