Kashmiri girl with him showed Aadhar Card from Budgam, on which the date of birth was 2001, says hotel manager

CCTV footage shows Major Leetul Gogoi, who used a civilian, Farooq Ahmed Dar, as a human shield, entering the hotel where he was denied entry into the room with a girl, who was a minor. Gogoi was apprehended by the police with a girl in the hotel in Dalgate area of Srinagar.

The police in its statement has said that an army officer, a woman and another civilian were apprehended after they got a call from Hotel Grand Mamta in Dalgate.

The booking details available with Free Press Kashmir show that the guest named Leetul Gogoi checked in on Wednesday May 23, 2018. The check out was to happen on Thursday 24 May.

Moreover the booking details also show that the guest was ‘travelling for business and may be using a business credit card’.

The Kashmir Walla, a Kashmir based news website has reported that Ajaz Ahmad, who identified himself as the Managing Director of Hotel Grand Mamta, narrated the whole incident of Major Gogoi’s presence at the hotel, but said that they were not aware that the guest was an Army major.

“He didn’t stay at the hotel but had to stay tonight. When he arrived, we asked for his Identity Cards but he was carrying a driving license from Assam and the Kashmiri girl, who was along with him, showed us an Aadhar Card from Budgam, on which the date of birth was 2001,” Ahmad said.

Following a minor argument, the hotel called the police.

“Police Station Khanyar received a call from Hotel Grand Mamta that an altercation has taken place at the hotel,” police said in a statement.

The police statement added, “a police party was deputed to the hotel, and it surfaced that a one woman (name withheld) and person namely Sameer Ahmed of Budgam had come to see some person. But the hotel reception did not allow them to meet the person. Meanwhile police party reached the spot and got all the persons to the police Station.”

The officials were handed over to their unit after due recording their statements. The statement of woman is also being recorded for probing the matter,” police statement concluded
